MICROSOFT POWERPOINT VS MICROSOFT SWAY

I have used both MS PowerPoint and MS Sway for the IT Professional Skills module. They both have a lot of same properties and can be used for presentations at college, work or anywhere. You can add slides with relevant text to make a presentation in both. I have used Microsoft PowerPoint my whole life, using Microsoft Sway was something new for me. therefore, I will be explaining the differences in both with pros and cons.

1. MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

Microsoft PowerPoint is a software created by Microsoft which can create presentations from scratch or from a given template. The user can input text, images, art or videos into their presentation while selecting a professional design with the PowerPoint designer. They can add transitions, animations or cinematic motion into their presentation to make it more professional or to make it look good. The user can then save the presentation on OneDrive for easy access from anywhere. The software also gives the ability to share the work with others or wherever they are.

  •  Pros:

Microsoft PowerPoint make is a lot easier for the user to create attractive and colourful designs using the given templates and themes in the software. It is a user-friendly app which can help in modifying the slides compared to other software such as adding charts, graphs and so on. It is easy to drag or drop a slide for re-ordering purposes.

  •  Cons:

When presenting on Microsoft PowerPoint it gives the illusion of content, when there is not much connection between the points on the slides. I feel that some speakers play a lot with the slides when presentation like adding a lot of images that there is not much to present or text on the slides which pushes the presentation away from the message they want to present. You need basic equipment like computer and projector to present.

2. MICROSOFT SWAY

Microsoft Sway is a new software launched by Microsoft. Which can create interactive reports, personal stories, presentations, newsletters and much more. It lets the user to add their own text, images and lets the user to import relevant information from other sources after which MS Sway does it magic to create one.MS Sway is free to use for anyone with a Microsoft Account (Hotmail, Live or Outlook). It is very easy to share your MS Sway project with anyone on the web and by changing the privacy settings, it lets other to control your MS Sway project.

  • Pros:

It is free and open to everyone, you just need a Microsoft Account (Hotmail, Live or Outlook) to use MS Sway. Microsoft has changed its modelling as in the past you had to buy the licenced product to run the software but now it is free. MS Sway lets you collaborate online with others as you must change the privacy settings for others to interact, it is help a lot when doing a group project in college or at work. MS Sway makes it a lot easier when finding content, you can search on the search engine in Sway to find all kinds of information that you require.

  • Cons:

You must have an internet connection for MS Sway to work as it wouldn’t work without the internet because it is a web-based software.

Conclusion:

I feel like MS PowerPoint and MS Sway are similar to each other. They both serve the same purpose of making presentations, they both are easy to use, and you can add images to them, but the only difference is that MS Sway is a web-based software while MS PowerPoint is a licenced desktop software.
